Reading Glasses is a simple Chrome extension that aims to help you concentrate while working online by filtering out the visual noise that distracts you while you are reading.
The extension is very simple, and doesn't have any configuration options. Even so, Reading Glasses does a good job of highlighting the content you are currently reading, allowing you to concentrate better. It does this by "whiting out" non-important content temporarily.
You can achieve this white-out in two ways. Either highlight the text you want to focus on and click the Reading Glasses icon in the bookmarks bar, or simply click into a paragraph and then press the button. Both will have the same effect - the text that interests you will remain untouched, while the non-necessary information around it (whether ads or other content) will fade until it is barely visible.
Some users will bemoan the fact that Reading Glasses doesn't have any configuration options. You can't change the degree of white out, or the color, for example. Also bear in mind that although some elements will be barely visible, they're still clickable. Reading Glasses is an interesting idea and on visually "busy" sites, a real relief. It's such a discreet extension, in fact, that you could easily keep it installed for occasional use.
